Pictured here is Saffron in what she calls her "Pinch, smile" pose. She cocks her head to one side and uses both her index fingers to prop up her ample cheeks, finishing it off with a grin. Lest anyone thinks she picked it up from us at home, let us assure you that it is a style all her own. Well, almost. When she came home from school after her class photo-taking session, and I asked her how it went, how she posed for the camera, she promptly introduced me to her "Pinch, smile" pose. Needless to say, we were horrified (though quite honestly amused at the same time). My sleepless nights over how she would turn out in her very first class photo were needless; she looks perfectly angelic in the picture. Though some possibly well-meaning smart aleck tucked in her T-shirt (which she usually wears tucked out) and pulled her shorts up a little too high.

Anyway, the upshot of this is with her new pose, Saffron's all set to take the Mandarin children's karaoke competition circuit by storm. She already has a repertoire of mandarin songs, from romantic ballads (The Moon Represents My Heart) to timeless classics (Zhu Ni Shen Re Kuai Le, or Happy Birthday). All she needs now are some iridescent party frocks and martial arts costumes, a sequinned hairnet complete with black faux-hair braids, a couple of neon pink furry ribbons for her hair, more bright red lipstick than you can shake a lipbrush at, and we're all set to go. I can already hear the crowds chanting "Wo Men Yong Yuan Zhi Chi Ni" (We Forever Support You)...
