Little Minx. Poppity Goblet. Sausage. Boo-boo. Pussycat.

Fastidious. Minor weakness for bananas and berries. Intrigued by her own nasal cavities. Likes a wander. Bossy boots. Considerate to soft toys. Enjoys a good lick of the coe-woe before bedtime. Furtive ice cube thief. Says Chinese words. With an English accent. Snores (gently). Lacks canines. A bloody genius.

Victory is sweet

Team Smithies 4 - Team Poor Bullied Mummy 1.
And with Saffron positioned strategically in front of the goal post, can you blame me for my dire performance? It's one of our new favourite things to do these days so anyone who wants to join us for a game (or two or three) is most welcome!

Step Two - Attempt to catch the nurse's eye

Friday, 29 July 2005

Step One - Sizing up the enemy

Ever since Saffron realised that by agreeing to co-operate on the weighing scale at her paediatrician's, she's rewarded with a little sweet for her efforts, she's been unstoppable. Now she looks forward to visits to the doctor and heads straight for the weighing scale. Repeatedly. During each visit. A far cry from not too long ago when she was terrified of getting weighed (who can blame her?), she now has to be coaxed off the scale.

In this series of pictures, she's trying to see if there are any sweets on offer, climbs on the weighing scale and tries to catch the attention of the nurse, and finally, turns to smile coyly at me, knowing that I've cottoned on to her trick.

Preparing for The Knowledge

With Mummy's sense of direction and Daddy's knack for parking, there's just no stopping Saffron. (Yes, that's Paddington Bear clutching on to the door handle for dear life).

Suitably restrained

Rare Saffron-in-buggy shot

These days you're more likely to spot Saffy huffing and puffing away behind her buggy, careering it recklessly into the path of unsuspecting oncomers, leaving crushed ankles in her wake, than sitting helplessly in her buggy. But because she's just about as high as her buggy, at first sight it looks like there's a buggy with a mind of its own on the loose, plunging headlong - unaided - into the thickest crowd of shoppers it can find. Here she is pictured restrained (literally) in her buggy, temporarily distracted by the ice-cream on offer.

Sleeping Beauty

After a hard day's work, Saffron fell asleep in her high chair after scoffing down a few pappadums at Shahi Maharani.

Waiting for her Hainanese Chicken Rice

Hurricane Saffron

Cooking up a storm

Left to her own devices one lazy Saturday afternoon, I ran to check on Saffy when the thuds and bangs coming from her room got suspiciously louder, only to be greeted by a rubble of toys and a sweaty minx. Her reply to my "What ARE you doing, Saffron?" was a matter-of-factly "Saffron is cooking", and a smile that made it clear she was well pleased with herself.

Little Scholar

Clever clogs

Genetically predisposed to becoming a bibliophile (well, she can't take after me in all respects, right?), it comes as no surprise that Saffron enjoys a good read. Happy to amuse herself for long stretches with her books, she is pictured here perched comfortably on her chair with one of her favourites The Beach.

Getting ready for school

Snapped early one morning whilst getting ready for school and having appropriated my phone for her own.

Blue light special

Hello from New York. (Me, not Saffy). She's in Singapore with her daddy no doubt wreaking havoc on the apartment(James, not Saffy). Thought one of the best ways to deal with the separation anxiety (Mine, not Saffy's) might be to blog about her. Besides, it gives me something to do before we start our day here.

The Artist never rests

This was snapped whilst waiting for our dinner at CPK. You can't tell from this picture, but Saffron's wearing her tiger trousers complete with long stuffed tail.

"The Death of Colonialism" brought to you by Gallery Minx.

No prizes for guessing which artist is responsible for the Gallery's latest art installation acquisition. The orderly lining up is a dead giveaway. Even dolly's little shoes have not been spared.
